Don't be tardy for the party.

I just got into San Antonio a little bit ago. I am sitting on the couch waiting for the rest of the Pickerts to get a move on. We have a party to attend. Little baby Grey is turning ONE. Well, he isn’t really, but his momma has planned a cowboy extravaganza this weekend because her husband and Grey’s daddy is currently home safely from Iraq for two weeks. I’m looking forward to see how Tranee’s planning pays off. I have no doubt that this will be an incredible first birthday with a ton of people, cowboy decor and BBQ- Tranee can do a party.

Example #1: Tranee and I had a joint high school graduation party. We rented a moonbounce, enough said there.

Example #2: Tranee gets married. This resulted in a hilarious bachelorette experience, an entertaining night before, amazing day of the wedding, a great reception, and 2 nights in pretty little cottages.

I’m very ready to get this party started, but I am still WAITING.

Wholesome good times.

Last Wednesday Michael, Tranee and Grey came to visit me. I could only get off on Thursday, but at least I got off something. It was wonderful to spend time with them. It was interesting to spend several days straight with Grey. We’ve spent lots of time together now in his little life, but I’ve never been present for so many diapers, baths, bedtimes, and mealtimes. He really is one of the best behaved babies I have ever heard of. Tranee is one fabulous mommy. I can’t ever imagine being as loving and patient as she is. Let’s hope these qualities are somewhere in me. If not, everyone will feel sorry for my adopted Asian child.

Saturday morning we went to the Aquarium for a breakfast with Santa. They had an elf in scuba gear in the tank and Santa himself was there. The whole thing was adorable and Grey really loved all the fish, they were fascinating to him. I parted ways with my family (I’m counting Tranee and Grey with Mike- they pretty much are) and headed to the airport to get JMO.

JMO tricked me and is now staying in Houston for two weeks. This is probably the best gift I will get for Christmas. I’m wildly impressed with his ability to keep a secret. I want to reveal surprises as soon as I decide something will happen. I still have to work the next two weeks, but I will get to spend New Years with him and I am off then at least. We spent yesterday with the Oswalt family, we saw Four Christmases, went to dinner and played board games. AND Mr. O made me oatmeal raisen cookies, which are quite tastey.

I only have a few days left to get everything ready for Christmas, but so far the holiday season has treated me very kindly

Thank you for reading my excited holiday high ramble.

Guggenheim.

When I was visiting JMO in NY last week, we went to the Guggenheim. On Fridays, starting at 5PM, they have a thing where you pay what you think the museum is worth. Above we are standing in the line, which we did not expect to see. We debated while in line what we wanted to pay. I decided on $12 for the two of us, because that is what I had in cash. After I had decided this, I noticed almost everyone paying only a dollar, or even two. I don’t think they were paying what they thought the museum was worth. I think they were paying what they wanted to pay.

The Guggenheim wasn’t really what I expected. There was lots of photography and the exhibits were a little sparse, which I think is not usual for the museum. The building itself seemed to be the greatest attraction. You can start at the bottom and move up, or take the elevator up and work your way down. We went up and worked down. It is set up like a giant spiral ramp with exhibit halls off different levels. On the bottom floor there was a pond with Pinocchio face down in it. It was truly a strange site. JMO’s interpretation was that, “There shall be no more lies.” I thought he read it off a plaque somewhere that i had missed, we asked a museum curator and she informed us that everything was left up to the visitor to interpret.

And that is my ramble about the Guggenheim and this picture.

I am loving having the internet this evening.
